چکیده

We propose an extension of the FML-APML specification to match our needs for specifying the communicative strategies of an engaging interactive toy. This intelligent toy uses various strategies defined in previous work to try to engage the child in a long-term relationship. We have identified several useful tags that are not yet incorporated in FML, in particular, tags to represent actions, emotions of other agents, and mental attitudes. This paper motivates such tags and describes a specification of our toy’s communicative strategies

The Semantics of Dialogue Acts

This paper presents an update semantic for dialogue acts, defined in terms of combinations of very simple ‘elementary update functions’. This approach allows fine-grained distinctions to be made between related types of dialogue acts, and relations like entailment and exclusion between dialogue acts to be established. The approach is applied to dialogue act representations as defined in the Dia...

DTask and LiteBody: Open Source, Standards-Based Tools for Building Web-Deployed Embodied Conversational Agents

Two tools for developing embodied conversational agents and deploying them over the world-wide web to standard web browsers are presented. DTask is a hierarchical task decomposition-based dialogue planner, based on the CEA-2018 task description language standard. LiteBody is an extensible, web-based BML renderer that runs in most contemporary web browsers with no additional software and provide...

Embodied conversational agents in computer assisted language learning

This paper describes two systems using embodied conversational agents (ECAs) for language learning. The first system, called Ville, is a virtual language teacher for vocabulary and pronunciation training. The second system, a dialogue system called DEAL, is a role-playing game for practicing conversational skills. Whereas DEAL acts as a conversational partner with the objective of creating and ...

Using DiAML and ANVIL for multimodal dialogue annotations

This paper shows how interoperable annotations of multimodal dialogue, which apply the annotation scheme and the markup language (DiAML, Dialogue Act Markup Language) defined ISO standard 24617-2, can conveniently be obtained using the newly implemented facility in the ANVIL annotation tool to produce XML-based output directly in the DiAML format. ANVIL offers the use of multiple user-defined ‘...

(2010), the final version additionally includes concepts for annotating rhetorical relations between dialogue units, defines a full-blown compositional semantics for the Dialogue Act Mar...
